Bushmills Real Irish Coffee

Bushmills Real Irish Coffee

Two Irish standbys team up to perfect a classic

I can remember back when I was a kid, my parent's would occasionally order Irish Coffee's after a meal, especially in the winter. At the time it never occurred to me that there might be alcohol in coffee (yuck!). Years later when I 'became of age' I had my first Irish Coffee.  I can still recall the moment; the aroma, the warmth...and of course, the amazing taste.

Now, if you want to be truly authentic you need Irish ingredients. Enter Bushmills, Ireland's oldest distillery, and Root & Branch, an independent roaster out of Belfast. These two North Coast legends teamed up to create the real Irish Coffee.

Root & Branch used a single-origin, microlot coffee in pursuit of the most exceptional Irish coffee, even seasoning the coffee beans in Bushmills whiskey casks. You can definitely pick up these malty, whiskey notes when you brew it. You can pick up the coffee here

Bushmills Real Irish Coffee

  • 2 oz Bushmills Irish Whiskey
  • .5 oz Brown Sugar Almond Syrup
  • 6 oz Bushmills Coffee

  1. Build all ingredients in a warm Irish Coffee mug.
  2. Top with a generous dollop of Vanilla scented whipped cream.
  3. Garnish with freshly grated orange zest.

Vanilla Scented Whipped Cream

  • 1 cup fresh whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla syrup

Whip the cream until you get soft peaks. Add sugar and extract and whip until incorporated. Store in fridge. Yield: about 2 cups (10 servings)

Brown Sugar Almond Syrup

  • 2 cups Sugar in the Raw
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp. Almond Extract

Bring water to a boil in a saucepan, then add sugar and extract, whisk until it dissolves completely (about 2 minutes). Reduce heat to a low simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, let cool then bottle in an air tight container and keep in the fridge.

This is one of my favorite cold weather cocktails –  great for bringing people together, warming the body and striking up conversation over. Sláinte!

This post is sponsored by Bushmills. Of course, these opinions (and this cocktail) are my own.
